How it is calculated
1 inch = 25.4 mm. 1 pt = 1/72 inch. 1 pica = 12 pt. 1 mil = 0.001 inch = 25.4 µm. Every conversion goes through millimeters.
The point here is the DTP point, 1/72 inch, not the traditional typographic one.
1 inch = 25.4 mm 1 pt = 25.4 / 72 mm 1 pica = 12 pt 1 mil = 0.0254 mm
Worked example
100 mil = 100 × 0.0254 = 2.54 mm = 0.1 inch = 7.2 pt = 0.6 pica.
